Linguistic Field(s): Semantics; Syntax
Meeting Description:
What is Mayfest? Every year the Linguistics Department of the University of
Maryland organizes a state-of-the-art linguistics workshop. This year's Mayfest
is a Wh-fest, devoted to various phenomena in wh-studies, with a special focus
on syntactic and semantic issues.
The program will consist of our invited speakers, all experts in this area,
presenting high-level surveys of particular modules of wh-studies (e.g.,
locality in wh-movement, semantics of interrogatives and wh-phrases,
superiority, among others), highlighting unresolved issues. They will also
present some of their recent work on the subject. We anticipate a productive
workshop where many challenging issues receive a thorough look from a variety of
perspectives.
Invited Speakers:
Joseph Aoun (University of Southern California)
Željko Bošković (University of Connecticut)
