Editor for this issue: Vanessa Manion <vanessalinguistlist.org>

The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity, nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we have no means of enforcing these standards.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international employment page at http://linguistlist.org/jobnet.html. This page has been set up so that people can report on the employment standards of various countries.

Description:

The Department of Computer Science at University College Dublin has a
vacancy for one postdoctoral research fellow within a new research
project funded by Science Foundation Ireland. The project seeks to
identify speaker-specific attributes to speech which remain invariant
despite wholesale changes to speech by intentionally switching
speaking styles. Text-independent, dynamic signatures will be
particularly sought, so a background in dynamic systems as well as
solid experimental phonetics experience are both required. The
candidate will have primary responsibility for the collection of
three recorded corpora in which speakers intentionally modify their
speech towards a known target. The corpora will support both basic
and applied research into speaker identification.

Interested candidates should forward a full currriculum vitae and any
appropriate accompanying material, as well as the names and contact
details of three academic referees to: Dr Fred Cummins (fred.cumminsucd.ie).

The position is initially open for one year with the possiblilty of
extension pending funding continuation and performance review. It will
pay a taxable salary of EUR 41,000 p.a. The position is to be filled
as soon as possible.

University College Dublin is committed to promoting the continued
development of academic, employment and other policies, procedures and
practices which do not discriminate unfairly on the grounds of gender,
marital status, age, disability, race, colour, religious belief, ethnic origin
or sexual orientation.
