The research position is part of the NWO VIDI-project on "Morphosyntactic development of children with a cochlear implant" (principal investigator Dr. M. Coene), a study of the language development of very early implanted children, compared to children wearing hearing aids, children with SLI and a normal hearing control group. Duration of the research position: 3 years. An additional 4th year is not excluded. The PhD student will be embedded in a joint research project between the Leiden Centre for Linguistics (Netherlands) and the Center for Dutch Studies at the Antwerp University (Belgium) and is co-financed by the Dutch NWO and the FWO-Flanders. These centers work closely together with the Eargroup (Deurne, Belgium, http://www.deoorgroep.net). Candidates have: - a masters degree in one of the following: linguistics, speech- and language pathology, (cognitive) psychology; - a firm background in linguistics, especially syntax; Candidates will: - prepare a PhD within the NWO VIDI-project; - work together with other researchers embedded in the Antwerp and Leiden research groups on language development in cochlear implanted children Preference will be given to candidates who: - have experience with cognitive neuro-imaging techniques (esp. fMRI); - have experience with software packages used in child corpus research (CLAN, AWK, PERL, ?) - are familiar with normal and/or disordered first language acquisition; - are familiar with Flemish (child) language For more information, please contact Dr.M.Coene at m.m.r.coene let.leidenuniv.nl Applications with CV, mentioning position number 6-130, should be sent to: Faculteit der Letteren, Hoofd Personeelszaken, mevrouw M.J.P.
