Preference given to applicants with specialty area in Romance Linguistics/Applied Linguistics and/or those who have experience in coordinating lower division language programs. CSU has recently established programs in Spanish and in Spanish with teacher certification and is seeking to expand these programs and their offerings. An earned doctorate in Spanish required; preference given to applicants with specialty area in Romance Linguistics/Applied Linguistics and/or those who have experience in coordinating lower division language programs. Highly desirable: a record of successful teaching experience with communicative language teaching approaches; having worked or studied in a Spanish speaking country; experience with Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL); native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English. In addition, the successful candidate must be able to work effectively as a team member within the Department of Language and Literature, be committed to teaching Spanish at all levels (1000 to 4000 level courses), will coordinate all lower division Spanish courses, and assist with study abroad. Although teaching and mentoring are the primary responsibility of the position, professional service and scholarly activity are also expected of tenure-track faculty. To guarantee consideration, application materials must be postmarked by December 15, 2006. A complete application includes: a letter of application addressing the candidate's qualifications, teaching philosophy, and scholarship activity; a current curriculum vitae; three letters of reference; and official transcripts from all schools attended. The transcripts must be submitted before an interview will be scheduled. Applications for part-time and full-time faculty positions must include transcripts of all academic work, and official transcripts must be presented prior to campus visit if selected for interview. Ability to meet Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) requirements with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the teaching disciplined is a must.
