Dear LINGUIST List Subscribers,

Please accept our heartfelt apologies for the obituary notice that was
posted for Peter Ladefoged on the LINGUIST List on January 26, 2006.

The notice originated as a personal message, which was accidentally
received at our editorial site and inadvertently posted. This message was
never intended as a message to the LINGUIST list, and should not have been
redistributed. We sincerely regret any problems caused by this error.

Dr. Ladefoged was and will continue to be a well-loved and respected
contributor to our field, and the notice gave short shrift to his life and
passing. We hope to post a much more suitable obituary, one which does
justice to the great value of his scholarly work, and the great affection
in which he was personally held.
