Subject: PhD in English as an International Language
The program of English as an International Language (EIL), at Monash University, Melbourne, has launched an innovative PhD program in EIL. This program will enable candidates to undertake substantial (60,000-100,000 words) and independent research on a topic which may be chosen from any area of linguistics and applied linguistics that has implications for the role of English as an International Language. These include, but are not necessarily limited to, the cultural, socio-political, pedagogical, ideological, and linguistic aspects of English within the context of its globalization. Duration of the course: The degree is normally completed in three years of full-time study, with a maximum candidature of four years of full-time, or eight years of part-time study. Entry requirements: A four-year Australian bachelors degree with honours or equivalent awarded at distinction H2A or above (with a distinction in the research component); or a bachelors degree or equivalent plus one-year qualifying program (with a H2A average in the research component); or a research masters degree with a H2A average, or equivalent.
