La conferenza, organizzata dalla ''Graduate Students Association of Italian
Studies'' presso l'Università di Toronto, si propone di esaminare come la
diversità si sia espressa e come sia stata percepita attraverso i secoli nella
letteratura, nel cinema, e nella lingua italiana.
La prospettiva inter-culturale e intra-culturale adottata intende dare voce sia
alle minoranze linguistiche e culturali in Italia nel corso del tempo e agli
italiani all'estero, sia a chi oggi, nel contesto culturale d'appartenenza, è
considerato o si considera diverso, e a chi tale era considerato o si
considerava in epoche passate. Si incoraggiano quindi interventi che affrontino
l'argomento nei vari periodi storici. Il discorso potrà inoltre essere esteso
alla discussione di generi, letterari e non letterari, tradizionalmente
collocati fuori dal canone, e ad altri campi disciplinari.
Non si tralascerà, inoltre, di affrontare una questione di natura pedagogica:
l'insegnamento delle lingue e delle culture straniere può incoraggiare il
diffondersi di un atteggiamento di apertura verso una società multiculturale? Come?
I saggi potranno essere letti in italiano, inglese o francese. Non dovranno
eccedere la durata di 20 minuti (equivalenti a 10 pagine nel formato MLA). Si
prega di inviare le proposte o i saggi entro il 20 dicembre 2006 al seguente

Organized by the Graduate Students Association of Italian Studies at the
University of Toronto, the conference will examine the perception of otherness
and the expressions of diversity in Italian literature, cinema, and language
throughout the centuries.
Perspectives will be both inter- and intra-cultural and will reflect both past
and present cultural and linguistic minorities in Italian society, Italians
abroad, and those who are/were perceived, or perceive/perceived themselves, to
be different within the very same culture. Papers exploring genres that are
considered ''diverse'', with respect to traditional canons, are welcome.
We will also attempt to address the following question: ''Can the teaching of
foreign languages and cultures promote a positive attitude towards a culturally
diverse society, and how?''
Although the focus will be primarily literary, cinematic, linguistic, and
pedagogical, papers addressing the proposed theme from different disciplines
will certainly be considered. We strongly encourage papers from all time periods.
Papers may be in Italian, English, or French, but must be no longer than 20
minutes (10 pages in MLA format). Please submit an abstract of your paper, or
your paper to be considered by December 20, 2006 via e-mail to:

The 21st edition of the « Journées de linguistique » (JDL) will be held on
March 8th, 9th and 10th, 2007 at Laval University (Quebec, Canada). JDL is one
of the most renowned student conferences in the field of linguistics. All those
interested in attending the JDL conference must submit their presentation
proposal by 19 January 2007. The maximum duration for each presentation is 20
minutes plus a mandatory ten-minute question period.
Les 21èmes Journées de linguistique (JDL) se tiendront les 8, 9 et 10 mars 2007
à l'Université Laval. Les JDL est l'un des colloques étudiants les plus
importants en linguistique. Dernier rappel: le délai est le 19 janvier 2007. La
durée de la présentation est de 20 minutes, suivie d'une période de questions de
10 minutes.

Laval University proudly presents the 21st Journées de linguistique (JDL), an
international, multidisciplinary student conference organised by the Association
of Graduate Students Enrolled in Languages and Linguistics (AEDILL). The
Journées de linguistique will be held on March 8th, 9th and 10th, 2007.
For the past 21 years, the JDL has given Canadian and International graduate and
post-graduate students an opportunity to both present and publish the results of
their research in all fields of linguistics. Humanities students whose research
focuses on any aspect of language are therefore invited to present their work.
Anyone interested in presenting a paper is encouraged to submit his or her
proposal before Friday, January 19th, 2007. Duration of presentations will be
20 minutes, followed by a ten-minute question period. Both the abstract and
presentation should be entirely in French, allowing for rare exceptions in
English. Participants must fill out the attached form entitled Proposition de
communication, according to the instructions given below. A review committee
will examine presentation proposals. Please include a $15 check payable in
Canadian funds to the Journées de linguistique to cover registration and
administration fees.

Abstracts:
Abstracts, which will appear in the official conference program, should adhere
to the following guidelines:
The abstract shall:
- accurately describe the proposed presentation;
- should not exceed 250 words, and must be written in French;
- be composed using word processing software;
- use size 12 Times New Roman font and be single spaced;
- be formatted to fit a US letter page (21,59 cm x 27,94 cm) with top and bottom
margins set at 9 cm, and left and right margins set at 3,3 cm.
Please neatly draw in black ink any symbols that cannot be replicated by a word
processor.
Please note that the review committee does not ensure a systematic linguistic
review of each document, but will exercise its right to correct formatting
errors as well as make suggestions regarding content.
Important instructions:
- Please send abstracts (in MS Word format ) as email attachments to
jdllli.ulaval.ca by 19 January 2007.
- Abstracts should be saved with the following title: jdl followed by your
initials (i.e. jdlabc.doc).
- Please provide the review committee with any special font (aside from the API
characters provided by the SIL at www.sil.org) used in the abstract.

C'est avec grande fierté que nous célébrons cette année les XXIes Journées de
linguistique (JDL) à l'Université Laval, un colloque étudiant d'envergure
internationale organisé bénévolement par l'Association des étudiants diplômés et
inscrits en langues et linguistique (AEDILL). Cette année, les Journées de
linguistique se tiendront les 8, 9 et 10 mars 2007.
Depuis vingt ans, les JDL permettent aux étudiants des cycles supérieurs de
présenter et de publier les résultats de leurs travaux dans tous les domaines de
la linguistique. Encore cette année, les JDL se veulent un colloque
multidisciplinaire et ouvert sur le monde. À cet effet, tous les étudiants en
sciences humaines dont les recherches portent sur un aspect de la langue sont
invités à venir présenter leurs travaux. Au cours des dernières années, les JDL
ont eu le plaisir d'accueillir des étudiants conférenciers étrangers et
souhaitent perpétuer cette tradition.
Les personnes intéressées à participer aux JDL doivent soumettre leur
proposition de communication avant le vendredi 19 janvier 2007. Les
communications sont d'une durée maximale de 20 minutes et sont suivies d'une
période de questions de 10 minutes. Elles devront être présentées en français.
Le formulaire Proposition de communication, joint au présent document, devra
être dûment rempli selon les instructions qui y figurent. Les propositions de
communication seront évaluées par un comité de lecture. Les formulaires doivent
être accompagnés d'un chèque de 15,00 $ fait à l'ordre des Journées de
linguistique. Ce montant couvre les frais d'inscription et d'administration.

Le résumé de communication sera reproduit tel quel dans le programme officiel
des JDL. Veuillez donc vous assurer que la présentation de votre résumé respecte
les règles suivantes :
- Le résumé de communication est un texte qui décrit votre présentation.
- Il doit être rédigé en français et d'une longueur maximale de 250 mots.
- Le comité de lecture n'assure pas systématiquement la révision linguistique du
texte mais se réserve le droit d'apporter des corrections de forme et de
suggérer des adaptations au niveau du contenu.
- Le texte doit être composé à l'aide d'un logiciel de traitement de texte.
