The 4th Ontario Conference on Applied Linguistics (OCAL 2007) will be held at the University of Windsor (Ontario, Canada) on May 19 and 20, 2007. The Ontario Conference on Applied Linguistics is a fully bilingual annual event which specializes in second-language learning and teaching as well as in related issues dealing with bilingualism. - Critères de sélection
Chaque proposition anonyme sera lue par au moins deux évaluateurs qui se serviront des critères de sélection suivants :
- adéquation à la thématique de la conférence ;
- caractère novateur, c.-à-d. contribution originale et novatrice au domaine d'étude de l'apprentissage et de l'enseignement des langues secondes ;
- qualité scientifique du contenu de la proposition.
- Thématique de la conférence
Le Colloque ontarien de linguistique appliquée, tenu pour la première fois en juin 2002 à l'University of Western Ontario, est un forum consacré à l'étude de l'apprentissage et de l'enseignement des langues secondes.
Le comité d'organisation d'OCAL 2007 sollicite des propositions de communication portant sur l'apprentissage ou l'enseignement des langues secondes ou s'intéressant à des questions connexes ayant trait à la bilingualité de l'individu ou au bilinguisme de la société. Le comité désire tout particulièrement recevoir des propositions qui concernent le contexte canadien. Des propositions examinant les questions suivantes à la lumière de la réalité linguistique canadienne seront particulièrement appréciées :
- les apports récents de la linguistique appliquée à la didactique des langues ;
- les objectifs des méthodes d'enseignement de langues secondes et l'atteinte de ces objectifs ;
- le rôle des méthodes d'enseignement dans le renforcement du bilinguisme;
- le rôle de l'école dans la promotion du bilinguisme ;
- les obstacles à l'apprentissage des langues secondes ;
- les attitudes sociolinguistiques envers la bilingualité de l'individu ;
- les attitudes sociolinguistiques envers le bilinguisme de la société ;
- les attitudes sociolinguistiques envers les méthodes d'enseignement des langues secondes, telle l'immersion.
Des propositions de communication se penchant sur des contextes géolinguistiques différents mais examinant une ou plusieurs des questions susmentionnées seront également considérées.
- Durée des communications
Les communications seront d'une durée de 20 minutes, suivies d'une période de questions de 10 minutes.
- Langues des communications
Le français et l'anglais.

OCAL 2007 a reçu un appui financier des sources suivantes :

- Abstracts
Abstracts of not more than 250 to 300 words written in either English or French should clearly state the research questions or problems addressed and give some indication of results or conclusions.

While filling out the form, take special care to clearly indicate your name and affiliation as well as the names and affiliations of any co-authors.
- Selection Criteria
A selection committee consisting of at least two members will blindly review all abstracts using the following criteria:
- adherence to the conference themes;
- originality, i.e. original and innovative contribution to the field of Applied Linguistics;
- overall scientific quality of the proposal.
- Conference Themes
The Ontario Conference on Applied Linguistics, first organized by the University of Western Ontario in June 2002, specializes in second-language learning and teaching.
The OCAL 2007 organizing committee welcomes proposals focusing on second-language learning and teaching as well as on related issues dealing with bilingualism. Proposals with a strong Canadian content are especially solicited. The committee is particularly interested in receiving proposals which examine the following topics within the Canadian linguistic realm:
- recent advances in Applied Linguistics and how they apply to second-language teaching and learning;
- the objectives of second-language teaching methods and the ways in which these objectives are being met;
- the relationship between second-language teaching methods and the spread of societal bilingualism;
- the role schools play in the propagation of societal bilingualism;
- impediments to second-language learning;
- sociolinguistic attitudes towards bilinguality, i.e. bilingualism of the individual;
- sociolinguistic attitudes towards societal bilingualism;
- sociolinguistic attitudes towards second-language teaching methods, such as French immersion.
Papers examining similar issues but in a different linguistic landscape will also be considered.
- Conference Format
Each paper will be allotted 20 minutes for its delivery followed by a 10-minute question period.
