Dissertation Abstract:
The thesis is an investigation of the incidence of bilingualism on the Tashelhit young learners' language choice patterns.
The investigation has has shown that: (i) The socio- economic level of the family, however important it may be, does not influence the language achievement of the learners exclusively of other factors. (ii) The impact of the cultural status of the family is a fundamental element in the pupils'level of language performance. (iii) Mutual influence between languages does not affect achievement in either. (iv) The impact of a language, Arabic for example, on the mental activities of the learner is closely related to his degree of achievement in this language.
