Call Deadline: 15-Apr-2007
Call for papers - Spoken language: a special issue of the journal Studia Linguistica Call information: With this open call we invite authors to submit papers for a special issue of Studia Linguistica on the topic of Spoken Language (Vol. 62, issues 1/2, 2008). It might be debatable whether spoken language is something other than language generally; however, it is fair to say that many linguistics papers, especially those that deal with languages that have a written tradition, focus on written language. This is in some cases a deliberate strategy, but it is also reasonable to assume it is partly a function of convenience: examples are easier to obtain both because of the predominance of written material on the net, and because of the fact that most collected corpora contain written language. At the same time many linguistics papers use fabricated and idealised examples to discuss their topics. In this issue of Studia Linguistica, we invite papers that focus especially on spoken language. This means that the empirical data must be from real-life situations (understood in a broad sense), including spoken language corpora. We expect many new kinds of data to emerge, and that, as a result, accepted and/or received conceptions of linguistic phenomena may have to be revised. We invite papers on a wide range of topics, where the focus may be on one or more of several different areas of spoken language: syntax, morphology, phonology, semantics, pragmatics, lexicon. Submission: The deadline for submission is April 15, 2007. Papers should be sent electronically to the guest editor: Janne Bondi Johannessen The Text Laboratory, Dept. of Linguistics and Nordic Languages University of Oslo P.O.Box 1102 Blindern N-0317 Oslo jannebj iln.uio.no The instructions for contributors (with the exception of submission address) can be found at the web site of Studia Linguistica: http://www.blackwellpublishing.com/submit.asp?ref=0039-3193
