ESF provides a common platform for its Member Organisations in order to advance European research and to explore new directions for research at the European level. Through its activities ESF serves the needs of the European research community in a global context. The European Science Foundation is recruiting a Scientific Coordinator for EUROCORES Programmes in Cognitive Sciences, based at the Humanities Unit. Profile and Recruitment - research scientist from the appropriate research community, with international programme management experience, or a research manager with extensive research experience from a funding agency - strong interpersonal and communication skills, leadership potential, but capable of working in a team and within a matrix management structure - excellent spoken and written English. Working knowledge of French and other European languages would be an advantage, but is no requirement - scientific expertise in cognitive sciences (philosophy, psychology, linguistics) Tasks and responsibilities The Coordinator will report to the Head of the Humanities Unit, will work closely with the Team Leader EUROCORES at the Humanities Unit and with the EUROCORES scheme coordinator. He or she will: - pro-actively support the Scientific Committees (project leaders) in the realisation of the integrated scientific objectives of the EUROCORES programmes, initiate and promote the interaction, collaboration and networking between the individual projects, including the organisation of workshops and conferences - interact with the participating ESF Member Organisations (funding agencies) - provide support for meetings of the various committees in the programmes, including their preparation and follow-up actions - assist in the organization of peer review processes when appropriate - contribute to reporting duties arising from the EC contract supporting the EUROCORES Scheme Employment conditions The position is offered initially until September 2007, starting as soon as possible, with the perspective of a prolongation in line with funding obtained for the EUROCORES scheme - the coordinator will work in the ESF Office in Strasbourg and will be expected to undertake a significant amount of travel - salary will be based on skills, experience and ESF terms and conditions Applications by 30 March, preferably via e-mail, to: jobs esf.org Interviews will be held in Strasbourg on 13 April 2006.
