Full Title: 1st Newcastle Postgraduate Conference in Theoretical and Applied Linguistics Date: 23-Jun-2006 - 23-Jun-2006 Location: Newcastle, United Kingdom Contact Person: David Young Meeting Email: pgconfling ncl.ac.uk Web Site: http://pglinguistics2006.ncl.ac.uk Linguistic Field(s): Applied Linguistics; General Linguistics Call Deadline: 24-Mar-2006 CALL DEADLINE EXTENDED TO FRIDAY, 24TH MARCH! We are pleased to announce the First Newcastle Postgraduate Conference in Theoretical and Applied Linguistics in association with the University of Durham, sponsored by the AHRC. The success of the Durham Postgraduate Linguistics Conference over the past decade, and the recent amalgamation of Durham's linguistics department with Newcastle University's School of English, has led to the creation of a new conference based in Newcastle. This conference is designed to give linguistics postgraduates an opportunity to present and discuss their research in an informal and intellectually stimulating setting. Professor Bernard Comrie (Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology) and Professor Vivian Cook (University of Newcastle upon Tyne) will be giving guest lectures at this year's conference. Professor Comrie's talk will be on Language and Genes. Professor Cook's talk title is to be confirmed. We invite postgraduate students to submit abstracts for oral and poster presentations on ANY area of linguistics, theoretical or applied (see below for abstract submission guidelines). KEY DATES: The deadline for submission of abstracts has been EXTENDED TO FRIDAY, 24TH MARCH. The conference itself takes place at Newcastle University on Friday, 23rd June. PRESENTATION GUIDELINES Accepted abstracts will be allotted 20 minutes for presentation and 10 minutes for discussion. There will be two poster sessions on the day of the conference, but posters will be on display all day. Speakers will also be invited to submit their paper for publication in the Newcastle & Durham Working Papers in Linguistics.
