Les années soixante et soixante-dix ont donné un nouveau souffle aux
collaborations entre linguistes et littéraires loin des multiples cloisonnements
du champ du savoir. Pourtant il reste encore aujourd'hui des résistances à la
conjonction de la linguistique et de la littérature, surtout en France, où elles
sont encore loin l'une de l'autre dans les découpages classiques au sein de
l'institution académique. Cette disjonction a son histoire. En intitulant ce
colloque, ''Cluny, 40 ans après: linguistique et littérature'', nous avons voulu
faire écho à celui de 1968, qui avait joué un rôle important dans la promotion
des premières alliances entre les deux disciplines.
Ce colloque a pour visée de présenter et discuter l'intérêt de l'intersection,
les enjeux des concepts transitionnels, en les envisageant dans leur dynamique
interdisciplinaire. Il est aussi l'occasion d'impulser une réflexion sur
l'apport potentiel des connaissances dans l'approche des textes et des discours
du point de vue des deux disciplines.
Plusieurs problématiques, envisagées comme source d'interaction entre ces deux
champs disciplinaires, s'imposent à nous:
- Quelle est l'influence du débat intellectuel des années soixante et
soixante-dix autour des travaux de Greimas, Barthes, Bakhtine, Kristeva,
Todorov, Genette et Peytard sur les théories récentes de la lecture et de
l'interprétation des textes?
- Quel regard les deux disciplines portent-elles l'une sur l'autre, et comment
leur métadiscours en témoigne-t-il? Quelle est la place aujourd'hui du texte
littéraire dans l'enseignement de la linguistique, et des méthodes linguistiques
chez les littéraires?
- Les modèles formalistes sont-ils toujours les seuls dominants chez les
littéraires?
- Que devient le couple /texte-discours/ par rapport à ce qu'on appelle
aujourd'hui les corpus?
- Quels sont à l'âge numérique les enjeux et les objets de la stylistique?
- Comment les deux disciplines intègrent-elles le social dans le discours à
l'analyse des textes?
- Les représentations de la langue et du style, peuvent-elles être envisagées
comme élément constitutif d'une histoire de la littérature?
- Quel regard porte-t-on aujourd'hui des deux côtés sur le rôle de l'analyse de
discours comme discipline fédératrice?
Autant de questions, théoriques et pratiques, qui sont dans le droit fil du
rapport entre linguistique et littérature. Ce colloque cherchera à rendre compte
de l'état de l'art du travail accompli, de sa diversité, mais aussi, en
s'appuyant sur ces propositions théoriques, à ouvrir de nouvelles voies à la
recherche en sciences humaines.
En cherchant à dépasser la simple et rassurante juxtaposition
pluridisciplinaire, le colloque propose une confrontation d'ensemble entre
fondateurs, continuateurs et nouveaux venus, adjuvants ou opposants.

Modalités de soumission des propositions de communication:
Les propositions de communication devront être adressées par voie électronique
à: Driss Ablali (driss.ablaliuniv-fcomte.fr) avant le 30 mai 2007.
Les articles soumis devront décrire un travail original et novateur. Les
contributions devront contenir un état de l'art et des références à des travaux
antérieurs pertinents. Le résumé sera accompagné d'une page de renseignements
pratiques comprenant: nom, affiliation, téléphone, adresse postale et
électronique. Les résumés (ne dépassant pas 3000 signes) doivent être en Times
12 avec interligne simple et en format Word ou RTF. Les contributions feront
l'objet d'une double évaluation anonyme par deux experts du comité scientifique
de la conférence. Les décisions seront communiquées le 30 juin 2007 et le
programme provisoire du colloque sera diffusé le 15 juillet sur le site du

A conference on theoretical and experimental issues in prosody. This conference
brings together researchers working on prosody from different fields, including
phonetics, phonology, language processing, neurolinguistics, and computational
linguistics.
The conference is co-organized by Michael Wagner (Cornell University), Duane
Watson (University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign) and Ted Gibson
(Massachusetts Institute of Technology).
Recent developments in language research have increasingly put the spotlight on
prosody, e.g. the intonational, rhythmic, and phrasing of natural language. An
improved understanding of prosody and parsing of natural speech is important not
only for a better understanding of human speech processing but also for
automatic speech recognition and synthesis. Leading research questions include:
What type of information about syntax, semantics, and context is reflected in
prosody? How much of that information can a listener retrieve from the signal?
How does this information facilitate language processing in online
conversations? What do disfluencies and pauses in production reveal about the
cognitive processes involved in planning and producing prosodic structure? How
incremental is the planning and production of prosody, and what does it reveal
about incremental speech production more generally?
This conference is intended as a venue for exchanging ideas and methodologies,
for learning about different perspectives, and most importantly, for stimulating
discussion and inspiring new ideas,
projects, and collaborations beyond the trodden paths. The conference will
consist of spoken paper presentations and a poster session, both of which will
cover experimental and theoretical topics in prosody. Papers and posters will be
selected from submitted abstracts, and additional presentations will be made by
invited speakers. The results of the conference will be published in a special
issue of the journal Language and Cognitive Processes.
Student Travel Stipends:
There will be 20 travel stipends for student participants for up to $300.
Preference will be given to presenters. Information about how to apply for a
travel stipend will be posted closer to the conference date.

Submissions for all presentations must be submitted by this date. Notifications
regarding acceptance/rejection will be made in late February.
Abstract Guidelines:
Submissions for both posters and presentations must be made as abstracts.
Abstracts must not exceed 500 words. Fifteen lines, which are not included in
the word count, may be used to present examples and references. Abstracts must
be submitted via the conference website: http://ling.cornell.edu/prosody08
