These meetings have been very successful over the years, providing beginning researchers the opportunity to present their work on an academic forum and to receive valuable feedback. Stimulated by suggestions from the AILA International Committee, Anéla and GAL, the German affiliate, have now planned to organize a joint International Research Meeting for Junior Applied Linguists, aiming at an international exchange of ideas and a stimulation of contacts between European affiliates of AILA. This event will take place January 24-26 2007 at the University of Groningen. Over 85 junior researchers from different countries will present their work. The topics vary from syntax and phonetics to language & media and intercultural communication. The full program can be found at the website. We are pleased to announce our plenary speakers: - Eva-Maria Jakobs, RWTH Aachen ''We didn't actually learn it?'' Writing Competence for the Work Place - Jan Hulstijn, University of Amsterdam What is language proficiency? - Johannes Wagner, University of Southern Denmark A short introduction to second language conversations We invite junior and senior researchers to visit the conference.
