The job involves working with our staff linguists and speech recognition engineers to improve pronunciation dictionaries and normalize text corpora. Work arrangements are flexible, and they include the possibility of telecommuting. Preference will be given to candidates within traveling distance of either Woburn, MA or Ithaca, NY for occasional on-site work. Approximate time frame of project: 3-4 months, 15-30 hours/week, starting in May 2007. Qualifications: Applicants should be native speakers of British English, with some background in linguistics and coursework in phonology. Applicants should be familiar with pronunciation transcription systems, and must have a sufficient understanding of the general phonological characteristics of standard British English. A background in editing, proofreading, and/or technical writing is also desirable. Ability to write scripts in Perl or other languages is a plus. Previous experience in working with dictionaries, text corpora strongly preferred. Compensation: Negotiable hourly compensation.
