Announcing the Society for Language Development's Annual Symposium: Generalization in language learning Thursday November 1, 2007, 1:00 - 5:00 Boston University, George Sherman Student Union Janet Pierrehumbert - Northwestern Josh Tenenbaum - MIT Steven Pinker - Harvard Language acquisition requires generalizations that involve multiple linguistic levels. The complexity of the interrelations among structural levels in language presents a challenge to the learner -- even a learner endowed with prodigious capacities for statistical computation. Given this challenge, how might a data-driven learner succeed? The 2007 SLD symposium presents three speakers who will address this issue, plus discussion and afterward an informal reception.
