Description:
Tenure-track position for assistant professor of linguistics to begin in fall 2008, pending funding. PhD in linguistics (or in English with linguistics concentration) and college teaching experience required. Primary teaching responsibilities will include Introduction to Linguistics, Descriptive Grammar, History of the English Language, Language and Culture, Sociolinguistics, and possibly sophomore-level literature surveys. The successful candidate will carry a 2-2 teaching assignment in the first year, then a 3-2 assignment in subsequent years. Research interests are open. Publications and professional service are required for tenure and promotion. Salary will be competitive. Affordable and comfortable faculty housing is usually available in the first two years of employment. Mississippi State University is a Carnegie Doctoral/Research-Extensive institution with approximately 16,000 students on the main campus.
