The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.
Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page at http://linguistlist.org/jobs/jobnet.html. This page has been
set up so that people can report on the employment standards of various countries.

Description:
One permanent 100% post, start date 1st January 2008 or by agreement; and one temporary 100% post, start date 1st December 2007 to 31st December 2008. Salary by negotiation - include salary suggestion in your application. Placement: Falun. The post may be offered for a trial period. The subject of English at Högskolan Dalarna currently has a teaching staff of 17 and offers a large selection of courses and programs up to Masters level to both Swedish and international students. Duties: Teaching and supervision of students of English linguistics at undergraduate and Master's level both on campus and by distance, possibly including teaching duties abroad at some of our partner universities (above all in Vietnam). There may also be other teaching duties in English and even on the teacher training program. Part of the post includes research (to varying amounts), course administration, and participation in development of the subject. Prequisites for the Post: Candidates have fulfilled the requirements for a lecturership if they have: 1. A doctorate or equivalent competence, or other professional competence that is relevant for this post; 2. Undergone training in university teaching or demonstrated equivalent competence; 3. Demonstrated teaching competence. As much weight will be attached to teaching competence as to the other prerequisites. Candidates who do not fulfill the requirement in point 2 shall be considered to have done so if they can perform the duties described above or if there are specific reasons (HF chapter 4, §7). Basis for Judging Requirements: The competence level required for the post will be used as the basis for judging the requirements. In addition, competence in administration and other tasks relevant to the post as decided by the university college will be taken into account. An ability to develop and lead the college's work and staff will also be used, as well as an ability to cooperate with the region and to present research and development work. Teaching and research competence will be given equal weight for this post. Desirable Qualifications: Good subject knowledge in English linguistics, especially within one or more of the following areas: phonetics/phonology, sociolinguistics, and discourse analysis. Also required are records of experience of course development and teaching, especially supervision of degree theses both at undergraduate and Master's level. Experience of teaching English in an international perspective is also of merit, as is previous experience of distance/web-based teaching. We are seeking someone with initiative who is able to cooperate, who is prepared to take on greater responsibilities, and who will actively work with colleagues to increase student interest in language studies. Your Application: Your application with its official record number should contain three copies of each of the following: - curriculum vitae - transcripts of qualifications - list of publications including a written account of scientific, pedagogical and administrative work. Include three copies each of your five most relevant publications - contact details for referees - pedagogical merits should be submitted on a separate form which can be ordered from Högskolan Dalarna, tel. +46 23-77 80 41 or by email from alg du.se or from our website www.du.se/pedagogiskameriter.
