Description:
The Department of Linguistics of the University of Utah announces several funded and anticipated graduate assistantships for research and teaching, beginning Fall 2008, and invites applications for these assistantships and to the linguistics PhD program. Several of these assistantships involve hands-on research in projects aimed at documenting and revitalizing a number of American Indian languages (both of the American West and Latin America - we are currently working with 12 languages and their communities of speakers); others involve research with second language acquisition and applied linguistics; and still others are teaching assistantships in theoretical and applied linguistics. All include the standard graduate assistantship stipends plus full tuition waiver. (For scholarships and other awards, see also http://www.hum.utah.edu/display.php?pageId=923.) For general information about the research projects, the graduate program, and application procedures, see the Center for American Indian Languages' (CAIL's) website at www.cail.utah.edu and the Department of Linguistic's site (listed above). For more specific information, contact Lyle Campbell or MaryAnn Christison. The University of Utah values students from diverse backgrounds; the University of Utah is an Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action employer, and encourages applications from women and minorities, and provides reasonable accommodation to the known disabilities of applicants and employees.
