The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.
Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page at http://linguistlist.org/jobs/jobnet.html. This page has been
set up so that people can report on the employment standards of various countries.

Description:
The ZHAW Zurich University of Applied Sciences is one of the largest institutes of higher education in Switzerland, with eight different Schools, 6,000 students, and 1,500 employees. The School of Applied Linguistics offers academic degree programmes at the Bachelor and Master levels; it also conducts research, offers professional development courses and provides consultancy services in the area of applied linguistics. Within the framework of the project "Sensory Language and the Semantics of Taste (SenS)", an interdisciplinary team from the Universities of Zurich and Basel, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH) and the ZHAW is currently investigating the lexis of taste in the German language. The aim is to provide specialists in relevant fields (consumer science, food sensorics, linguistics) with a comprehensive data base of everyday gustatory expressions. In conjunction with this project, a permanent position (80-100%) is available for a lexicographer. You will work as a research/teaching assistant in the Institute of Translation and Interpreting. As a member of the project team, you will conceive and implement the lexicographical aspects of the data base. You will also teach in a related subject area, acquire external funding and projects in your field, and provide methodological support for lexica projects. You will hold a university degree in linguistics or a related area, and you will have professional experience as a lexicographer. You are a German native speaker, with a good knowledge of foreign languages and a strong interest in multilingualism. You are interested in the challenge of applying the findings of linguistic research in practical settings. You are a good team-player, you show initiative, and you are used to working in complex organisations. At the ZHAW, you will find a stimulating environment, good working conditions and interesting creative opportunities.
