17th International Congress of the German Association Short Title: 17 CAAH Date: 18-Mar-2009 - 21-Mar-2009 Location: Tübingen, Germany Contact: Johannes Kabatek Contact Email: kabatek uni-tuebingen.de Meeting URL: http://www.hispanistica.de Linguistic Field(s): General Linguistics Subject Language(s): Spanish (spa) Meeting Description: 17th International Congress of the German Association of Hispanists will have the general title 'Spanish as a global language: new horizons for Hispanic studies' and offer the opportunity to discuss actual research results on the Spanish language and Hispanic literature and culture Never has the worldwide presence of Spanish been as intensive as in our days, never so strong the interest in studies about the Spanish language and Hispanic culture. This boom of the Spanish language is accompanied by a new role of Hipanic studies, with a remarkable presence within the landscape of Humanities and an always clearer inner differentiation of disciplines. Hispanic studies in the German speaking countries are still embedded in the general context of Romance Philology, a fact that gives Hispanic studies in these countries a special profile. The international congress of the German Association of Hispanists as largest meeting of Hispanists in the German speaking countries offers an opportunity to present actual results of research on studies on the Spanish language, Spanish and Latin American literature and culture and to open new perspectives. At the same time, the congress is a place where the new role of Hispanic studies will be discussed.
