Workshop Language, Cognition and Parkinson's Disease Date: 10-May-2007 - 10-May-2007 Location: Groningen, Netherlands Contact: Femke Wehrens Contact Email: e.j.h.m.wehrens rug.nl Meeting URL: http://www.let.rug.nl/parkinson Linguistic Field(s): Cognitive Science; Neurolinguistics; Psycholinguistics Meeting Description: In this workshop, leading figures in the field will discuss their work on (the origin of) language disorders in Parkinson's Disease Parkinson's Disease is a progressive, degenerative neurological disease and the diagnosis is made when the patient is presented with at least two of the major motor symptoms: resting tremor, rigidity, and bradykinesia. Recent studies have shown that the cardinal motor symptoms are often accompanied by various cognitive impairments. Impairments in language, being a cognitive function, have recently also been described, both at the word and at the sentence level. Internationally, several laboratories are working on this topic. For this workshop, international experts have been invited to present and discuss the latest findings of their research on language functioning in Parkinson's disease. The target audience of the Workshop includes post-doctoral fellows, students, and clinicians in the fields of Linguistics, Neurology, and Neuropsychology and others with an interest in the current research on language, cognition, and Parkinson's disease.
