Meeting Description
Organized by the LIA (Computer Lab of the University of Avignon),
JEP-TALN-RECITAL'08 groups together the 27th edition of the Spoken
Language Conference JEP'08, the 15th edition of the Natural Language
Processing conference TALN'08 and the 10th edition of the Student NLP conference
RECITAL'08.
For the third time, after Nancy in 2002 and Fes in 2004, the French speech
association AFCP and the French NLP association ATALA are jointly organising
their main conference in order to group together the two research community
working in the fields of Speech and Natural Language Processing.
The conference will include oral and poster communications, invited conferences,
workshops and tutorials. Workshop and tutorials will be held on June 13, 2008.
The official languages are French and English

Presentation
Organisée par le LIA (Laboratoire Informatique d'Avignon), la conférence TALN'08
se tiendra du 9 au 13 juin 2008 à l'Université d'Avignon à l'occasion de la
conférence jointe JEP-TALN-RECITAL'08.
JEP-TALN-RECITAL'08 regroupe la 27ème édition des Journées d'Etude sur la Parole
(JEP'08), la 15ème édition de la conférence sur le Traitement Automatique des
Langues Naturelles (TALN'08) et la 10ème édition des Rencontres des Étudiants
Chercheurs en Informatique pour le Traitement Automatique des Langues (RECITAL'08).
Pour la troisième fois, après Nancy en 2002 et Fès en 2004, l'AFCP (Association
Francophone pour la Communication Parlée) et l'ATALA (Association pour le
Traitement Automatique des Langues) organisent conjointement leur principale
conférence afin de réunir en un seul lieu les deux communautés du traitement de
la langue orale et écrite.
La conférence TALN'08 comprendra des communications orales et affichées,
des conférences invitées, des ateliers et des tutoriels.
La langue officielle de la conférence est le français. Les communications
en anglais sont acceptées pour les participants non-francophones.
Thèmes
Les communications, d'une durée de trente minutes, questions comprises,
pourront porter sur tous les thèmes habituels du TAL, incluant, de façon
non limitative:
- Lexique: bases de données comportant des informations morphologiques,
syntaxiques, sémantiques, et/ou phonologiques
- Analyse, génération et lexiques dans les domaines suivants:
Phonétique et phonologie
Morphologie
Syntaxe
Sémantique
- Applications du TAL
Analyse de texte
Résumé automatique
Génération de texte
Dialogue homme-machine en langage naturel
Traduction automatique
Recherche d'information
Enseignement assisté par ordinateur
- Approches logiques, symboliques et statistiques
Le comité de programme sélectionnera parmi les communications acceptées deux
articles pour recommendation à publication (dans une version étendue) dans la
revue Traitement Automatique des Langues (t.a.l.).
Critères de Sélection
Les auteurs sont invités à soumettre des travaux de recherche originaux. Les
soumissions seront examinées par au moins deux spécialistes du domaine.
Seront considérées en particulier:
- l'importance et l'originalité de la contribution,
- la correction du contenu scientifique et technique,
- la discussion critique des résultats, en particulier par rapport aux autres
travaux du domaine,
- la situation des travaux dans le contexte de la recherche internationale,
- l'organisation et la clarté de la présentation,
- l'adéquation aux thèmes de la conférence.
Les articles sélectionnés seront publiés dans les actes de la conférence.
Modalités de Soumission
Les articles seront rédigés en français pour les francophones, en anglais
pour ceux qui ne maîtrisent pas le français.
Les articles soumis ne devront pas dépasser 10 pages en Times 12, espacement
simple, soit environ 3000 mots, figures, exemples et références compris.
Une feuille de style LaTeX et un modèle Word sont disponibles sur le site web
de la conférence. Les versions devront être au format A4.
Le site web de la conférence prévoit un formulaire interactif pour la soumission
des articles, à télécharger au format PDF. Des instructions pour la conversion
vers le format PDF à partir de Word sont disponibles sur le site de la conférence.

Papers are requested in all areas of NLP, including (but not restricted to):
Lexicon: databases containing morphological, syntactic, semantic, and/or
phonological information
Analysis, generation and lexicons in the following domains:
- Phonetics and phonology
- Morphology
- Syntax
- Semantics
NLP applications
- Text analysis
- Text summarization
- Text generation
- Natural language interfaces
- Machine translation
- Information retrieval
- CALL
Logical, symbolic and statistical approaches
All selected papers will be published in the proceedings. In addition, the
scientific committee will select two papers, which will be recommended for
publication in the journal ''Traitement Automatique des Langues'' (T.A.L.).
Selection
Authors are invited to submit original research work. Submissions will be
reviewed by at least two experts of the domain. Decisions will be based on
the following criteria:
- importance and originality of the paper
- scientific and technical soundness
- comparison of the results obtained with those found in relevant works
- clarity of the presentation
- relevance to the conference topics
Submission Procedure
Papers will be written in French for French-speaking authors or English for
non-French-speaking authors.
Papers should not exceed 10 pages, in Times 12, single-spaced (approx. 3,000
words), including figures, examples and references.
A LaTeX style file and a Word template are available on the conference website.
The page format is A4. An interactive form for the submission of articles is
provided on the conference website. Papers should be uploaded in PDF format.
Instructions for the conversion of Word documents into PDF format are available
on the conference website.

The conference aims to bring together researchers interested in the study of
French as a second language.

The conference aims to bring together researchers interested in the study of
French as a second language. The programme will include paper presentations by
participants on any aspect relating to the nature and development of French as a
second language. The conference will also propose a hands-on CHILDES training
workshop especially designed for those using or interested in using the program
and its tools to analyse second language learners data (in particular French).
This two-day conference is organised by the FLLOC research team. FLLOC is the
outcome of a series of research projects based at the Universities of
Southampton and Newcastle aiming at collecting oral corpora of learners of
French and at answering theoretical questions about the nature of learner language.
Abstract Submission Information:
Proposals for papers on any aspect of the nature and development of French as an
L2 are invited. Individual papers will be 30 minutes (20 minutes for
presentation plus 10 minutes for discussion).
Submissions for papers should include the following:
1. Title of the paper,
2. Name and affiliation of the author(s),
3. Abstract of 300 words maximum (excluding references and the title),
4. First author's postal address,
5. First author's e-mail address.
