Web Address: http://www.lexicon-branding.com/ Job Rank: Researcher Specialty Areas: Consumer Research; Linguistic Risk Analysis Description: Lexicon Branding, a brand name development company located near San Francisco, is looking for at least one full-time associate to conduct and coordinate branding-related consumer research and to perform linguistic risk analysis on global branding. This position has three key components: (1) moderating focus groups and conducting one-on-one interviews with consumers, using Lexicon's proprietary process; (2) coordinating the Lexicon research program and overseeing the research program calendar; and (3) making recommendations on the linguistic and cultural suitability of candidate brand names in key overseas markets. Principal responsibilities include: -general project planning and client service activities, such as booking focus group facilities, making travel arrangements, consulting clients on suitable research markets, and managing the research program calendar -writing and presenting final reports summarizing the analysis of the consumer research data -analyzing data and writing reports on the level of risk involved in using candidate brand names in various global markets Our training program is approximately one year in length, and we require a 3-year commitment total (so two additional years after the training year). Ideal candidates will have: - a PhD in linguistics, anthropology, sociology, communications, ethnography, or a related field (ABDs will be considered if they are otherwise a promising candidate for the position) - a strong knowledge of at least two linguistic families - less than two years of formal moderating experience (for this position, we are looking to train from the ground up) - a strong ability to gain insights through open and interactive conversations with all types of consumers (so fieldwork experience is beneficial) - some background or experience in advertising, graphic design, consulting, or other professional services industries preferred but not required You will eventually be traveling 25% of the work month for domestic research.
