BIDE (Bilbao-Deusto) Summer 2007 Linguistics Institute The University of Deusto and the BIDE Group for Linguistic Research are pleased to announce the following summer events in Linguistics: 1- BIDE (Bilbao-Deusto) Summer School of Linguistics, 9-12 July 2007. 2- BIDE (Bilbao-Deusto) Student Conference in Linguistics, 13-14 July 2007. 1- BIDE Summer School of Linguistics 2007 July 9-12, 2007 University of Deusto, Bilbao, Spain The BIDE Summer 2007 School of Linguistics consists in a series of courses, each focusing on the linguistic structure of a different group of Minority Languages. It will be held from July 9th to July 12th at the University of Deusto, where each day a course will describe the syntactic and phonological systems of a language (or group of languages), and place it within the broader context of linguistic theory. The languages that will be covered in the courses include Basque, Sign Languages, Occitan, Panoan Languages and Breton. The classes will be taught in English by international specialists on the different minority languages just mentioned and will be geared towards anyone with an interest in linguistics, both students and more advanced researchers. The aim of BIDE is to serve as rendezvous for new generations of academics from all areas of linguistic research (Theoretical, Experimental, Applied & Computational Linguistics). BIDE provides students a welcoming atmosphere where they can present their own work and get feedback from peers as well as senior researchers. Abstracts are due by April 27, 2007. Your proposal should describe original, unpublished work that may be in progress. Authors are limited to a maximum of one individual and one joint submission (papers co-authored with faculty will not be accepted). Send your abstract as a PDF or WORD file to bide fil.deusto.es with 'abstract submission' in the subject field. The abstract should be anonymous and abide by the following specifications: do not exceed two pages (examples and references included); use 1 inch ( 2.54 cm) margins on all sides; and a 12 point size font (preferably Times New Roman). Include your name(s), title of the paper, affiliation(s) and contact information in the email body, and indicate what area of linguistics your contribution fits in best, e.g. morphology, phonetics, phonology, syntax, etc. English is the official language of the conference and all abstracts must be written in this language. Notification of acceptance will be sent around mid May. Accepted papers are allotted 20 minutes for presentation and 10 minutes for discussion. The papers presented at BIDE'07 are eligible for publication in the International Journal of Basque Linguistics. The deadline for submitting papers will be announced at the conference.
