Meeting Description: La Sociedad Internacional para el Estudio del Humor
Luso-Hispano anuncia la recepción de ponencias para su XI Congreso anual. La
convocatoria está abierta a propuestas o paneles sobre cualquier aspecto del
humor en la literatura y la cultura de los países de habla española o
portuguesa, y sobre cualquier período o género. Las ponencias pueden ser sobre
Literatura, Análisis del Discurso, Semiótica, Cine, Arte, Música, Cultura
Popular, Ética, Humor Gráfico y Periodístico, así como Teoría del Humor y sobre
Historia Cultural. Se sugieren ponencias con un mínimo de jerga, accesibles a
los no especialistas. Las ponencias pueden leerse en español, portugués o
inglés. El tiempo de lectura se limitará a veinte minutos. Se publicará
posteriormente un volumen de ponencias seleccionadas.

La Sociedad Internacional para el Estudio del Humor Luso-Hispano anuncia la
recepción de ponencias para su XI Congreso anual. La convocatoria está abierta a
propuestas o paneles sobre cualquier aspecto del humor en la literatura y la
cultura de los países de habla española o portuguesa, y sobre cualquier período
o género. Las ponencias pueden ser sobre Literatura, Análisis del Discurso,
Semiótica, Cine, Arte, Música, Cultura Popular, Ética, Humor Gráfico y
Periodístico, así como Teoría del Humor y sobre Historia Cultural. Se sugieren
ponencias con un mínimo de jerga, accesibles a los no especialistas. Las
ponencias pueden leerse en español, portugués o inglés. El tiempo de lectura se

Para la participación en el Congreso es necesario hacerse miembro de The
International Societ for Luso-Hispanic Homor Studies. Para la incorporación a la
Sociedad ($ 20 USD) e información adicional, favor de contactar al Dr. Paul

Información General Sobre el Congreso
Lugar: Centro de Eventos Nacionales e Internacionales (CENI), Universidad de
Santiago de Chile, Chile. Sobre opciones de hospedaje, transporte y atracciones
de la localidad, se les informará posteriormente.
Inscripción: La cuota de inscripción para profesores es de 80 dólares USA, y para
estudiantes, de 40 dólares USA. A partir del 1 de agosto será de 100 y 50
dólares USA, respectivamente.
Resúmenes: La extensión es de 400 palabras (1 página) y en formato word en
cualquiera de las tres lenguas de la Sociedad. Favor de incluir los siguientes
datos: nombre, afiliación, correo electrónico, número de fax y dirección. Las
propuestas se recibirán hasta el 20 de abril. Se responderá a la mayor brevedad

Call for Papers
Deadline for receipt of abstracts: 20 April 2007
The International Society for Luso-Hispanic Humor Studies announces the call for
papers for its eleventh annual conference. Proposals for papers or panels on any
aspect of Luso-Hispanic literature or culture are invited. Presentations may be
in English, Spanish or Portuguese and involve any aspect of Luso-Hispanic humor
from any period or genre wherever Spanish or Portuguese are spoken.
Presentations may focus on but are not limited to the following fields:
literature, folklore, semiotics, discourse analysis, art, music, cartoons and
graphic humor, film, ethics, popular culture, humor theory and cultural history.
Papers must be free of excessive jargon and accessible to the non-specialist.
Reading time will be limited to twenty minutes. A volume of papers presented at
the conference judged to be of the highest quality will be published.
Participation in the conference is limited to members of the International
Society for Luso-Hispanic Humor Studies. For further information on the Society
and membership ($20USD), contact Dr. Paul Seaver, President of the Society at

General Information about the Conference
Place: Centro de Eventos Nacionales e Internacionales (CENI), Universidad de
Santiago de Chile, Chile. Information about transportation, lodging and tourist
attractions will be provided later.
Registration: $80 regular; $40 student by 1 August 2006. Thereafter and on site:
$100 regular and $50 student.
Abstracts: Abstracts should not exceed 400 words (1 page) in MicroSoftWord
format and may be in any of the three languages of the Society. Please include
the following information: name, affiliation, e-mail, fax and standard mailing
address. Proposals are to be received by 20 April 2007. Submissions will be
reviewed for acceptance as soon as possible after the date they are received.

This year the focus will be on Language Diversity and Language Learning: New
Paths to Literacy and papers may address issues like: language
diversity/bilingualism and learning, second language learning and learning through a
second language, language diversity and the emerging of literacy, German as a
second and foreign language, Greek as a second language, English(es) and the
other languages, first, second, foreign language at school, new technologies in
teaching/learning languages, language education, language policy.
Interested colleagues are hereby invited to submit abstracts of papers (20 min
presentation, 10 min discussion) relating to the colloquium's themes. Abstracts
(300-500 words) should be submitted in the form of a PDF or a MS Word file,
fonts: Times New Roman 12pt. They may include references but not bibliography.
