University or Organization: Thammasat University Department: Linguistics Job Rank: Instructor/Specialist Specialty Areas: Applied Linguistics; General Linguistics Description: The Department of Linguistics, Faculty of Liberal Arts, Thammasat University in Bangkok, Thailand currently has the following three positions available: We are seeking to hire applicants with strong academic skills in the field of Linguistics or Applied Linguistics. The first two are Instructor positions and the third is a Specialist position. All successful candidates will join the teaching members of the Department of Linguistics to teach courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and to fulfill administrative duties, for instance, through their participation in the editorial team of our Department's quarterly published Journal of Language and Linguistics and his/her contribution as language consultant in other departmental matters. The starting salary for each Instructor position is 23,370 baht per month, plus housing allowance of 8,000 baht per month, while for the Specialist position, it is 33,990 baht per month, plus the same housing allowance. However, on top of the general responsibilities described above, the Specialist will produce at least one original research project within his/her area of specialization per academic year. MA or PhD holders who are native speakers of American English, Canadian English, British English, Australian English, or New Zealand English are encouraged to apply. Prospective candidates must possess excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills, and be able to show evidence of their relevant academic and practical backgrounds and (if any) a list of publications and/or research. A face-to-face or telephone interview is necessary and will be arranged only at the application's own expense. The Department of Linguistics at Thammasat University is the oldest in Thailand and the only to offer a BA in Linguistics as well as an MA in Linguistics for Communication and a PhD in Linguistics. Our faculty members are engaged in teaching and research in the major areas of general and applied linguistics. The Department also publishes the Journal of Language and Linguistics. The Journal is the only specialized linguistics publication of its type in Thailand. It provides a forum for publication of original articles in any area of language, linguistics and language teaching.
