The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.
Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page at http://linguistlist.org/jobs/jobnet.html. This page has been
set up so that people can report on the employment standards of various countries.

Subject: English & Computational Linguistics: Post Doc, RPI, Troy, NY, USA
University or Organization: RPI Department: Cognitive Science Web Address: http://www.cassimatis.com Job Rank: Post Doc Specialty Areas: Applied Linguistics; Computational Linguistics; Discourse Analysis Required Language(s): English (eng) Description: I have funding for one or two postdocs at the Human-Level Intelligence Laboratory at the Rensselaer Department of Cognitive Science. The positions start in the spring and fall, although there is some flexibility. One of our lab's interests is to develop a system that uses a combination of logical, heuristic and probabilistic reasoning about the world and about speaker's intentions to infer the meaning of a question and provide an answer. Applicants for the position should have knowledge and experience in one of the following and a willingness to learn a bit about the rest: algorithms for inference, formal syntax and formalizations of common sense reasoning. RPI is a top-tier research university. The Cognitive Science department has identified the PhD program and research as its primary missions. The department is conducting research in a number of areas: cognitive modeling, human and machine learning, multi-agent interactions and social simulation, neural networks and connectionist models, human and machine reasoning, cognitive engineering, etc. RPI is located in historic Troy NY, in the Hudson River Valley, approximately 5 miles North of Albany, NY. It is 3-hrs south of Montreal, 2.5-hrs west of Boston, and 2-hrs north of New York City, to which Amtrak runs several trains daily. The Albany area is notable for many things, including its affordable housing, cultural events (e.g., the famed Saratoga Performing Arts Center), and proximity to outdoor recreation (e.g., hiking/skiing in the Adirondack, White, Green, and Berkshire Mountains). See the Web page below regarding research: http://www.cassimatis.com/hlil.html Application Deadline: (Open until filled) Contact Information: Nick Cassimatis Email: cassin rpi.edu Apply on-line at: http://www.cassimatis.com
