PhD in Linguistics or in English with Linguistics concentration preferred; ABD acceptable. Pending funding, a search will begin in August 2007 for a tenure-track position of the same description to begin in August 2008. Teaching load for visiting assistants is 4-4. Primary teaching responsibilities will include courses in English Language, especially Introduction to Linguistics, Descriptive English Grammar, and History of the English Language; ability to teach Syntax, honors freshman composition or sophomore-level British/American literature surveys is welcome. Research interests open, but diachronic or synchronic language variation in English, discourse analysis in English, lexicography, or any other English language emphasis preferred. Salary will be competitive. Affordable and comfortable faculty housing is usually available in the first two years of employment.
