Description:
The University of Hamburg invites applications for a salaried PhD student / Junior Researcher position at the Collaborative Research Center on Multilingualism. The position will be open from 1 July 2008 for a term of three years (pending funding endorsement). Salary will be ranked according to the German E13 TVL scale (half-time). The position will be in the research project H5 "Hiberno-English: Variation and Universals in Contact-Induced Language Change". It will involve work on the maintenance and enhancement of a corpus and database of historical Irish English texts, coupled with research on grammatical properties of Irish English dialects under a typological and contact-related perspective. Applicants must have completed a Masters degree or equivalent in (English) linguistics and should preferably have some experience with corpus-based research methods and/or a background in language typology, syntax, dialectology or contact linguistics.
