The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.
Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page at http://linguistlist.org/jobs/jobnet.html. This page has been
set up so that people can report on the employment standards of various countries.

Description:
The University of Goettingen invites applications for a post-doc position and one PhD position in linguistics. This occurs as part of the Exzellenzinitiative which singles out nine German universities for privileged funding, and which in Goettingen has initiated a strong focus in linguistics. The positions are affiliated with the Department of General Linguistics and the Department of English Linguistics which cooperate closely in research and teaching. You will be integrated and take responsibility in all scholarly activities in the rising linguistic research community. Goettingen offers a stimulating research environment with special infrastructure and funding possibilities for research in the humanities. Writing skills in English at a professional level are expected. Both positions form part of the research unit "Noun phrases in intensional positions." The research group aims to improve our understanding of the semantics of intensional argument positions and related phenomena by investigating them under a cross-linguistic perspective and bringing in insights from semantics, pragmatics and philosophy. The ideal candidates for both positions possess a strong background in formal semantics and have demonstrated experience in at least one of the following areas: pragmatics, philosophy, comparative semantics, linguistic typology, classifier languages. There are no teaching obligations, but contribution to the teaching program in linguistics is strongly encouraged. The post doctoral position requires a PhD thesis in linguistics or a related area. It is offered for 3 years with an extension for 1 or 3 more years depending on evaluation of the research group. The PhD position requires an MA in linguistics or a comparable degree. The applicant should receive a PhD. The position is offered for 2 years with a possible extension of further 2 years. Conditions of Employment: Post Doc Positions: Employment at the 13 TV-L level with a minimum gross of appx. 2800 Euro monthly for a full-time appointment (39,5 h/week). PhD: Employment at the 13 TV-L (50%) level with a minimum gross of 1400 Euro monthly. Eventual salary depends on age and family status. The positions are subject to the general regulations and age limits for academic employment in Germany. Please contact us for details. Starting date: July 1st, 2008. For additional information, contact Magdalena Schwager. Send your application, including your curriculum vitae, a 2 page statement about your research interests and plans for the years to come, and up to three samples of publications (preferably in electronic format) to the application address listed below. Alternatively, you can apply by e-mail. Double career applications are welcome. The University of Goettingen is an equal opportunity employer.
