We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.
In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have taken the trouble to respond to the query.
To post to LINGUIST, use our convenient web form at http://linguistlist.org/LL/posttolinguist.html.

Dear colleagues, We're pleased to announce that the Blizzard Challenge 2008 listening test is now running. The Blizzard Challenge is the only open, international evaluation campaign for text-to-speech systems. To find out more, please see http://www.synsig.org/index.php/Blizzard_Challenge . Taking part in the listening test is a unique opportunity to hear a range of text-to-speech systems, including some start-of-the-art systems from both commercial and university research groups, as well as helping to develop better speech synthesis. English: http://groups.inf.ed.ac.uk/blizzard/blizzard2008/english/register-ER.html Mandarin: http://groups.inf.ed.ac.uk/blizzard/blizzard2008/mandarin/register-MR.html Subjects do not need to be native speakers - we gather information about this in the questionnaire at the end of the listening test. The listening test can be completed in one session, or over multiple sessions. Please report problems to blizzard festvox.org The test site will remain open until June 16th 2008. Regards, Simon King [Note: The character encoding of your browser window may need to be changed to Unicode (UTF 8) to view the Mandarin website properly.]
