English Profile Networks: Research Network in South-East Europe Inaugural Seminar 26 - 28 September 2008 Herceg Novi, Montenegro A two-day seminar, launching the English Profile Research Network in South-East Europe, is taking place in Herceg Novi, Montenegro, from 26-28 September 2008. English Profile is a collaborative programme of interdisciplinary research, consultation and publication designed to enhance the learning, teaching and assessment of English worldwide. It is set up to produce Reference Level Descriptions for English, envisaged to be a core reference document for English as a foreign or additional language linked to the general principles and approaches of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). English Profile is registered with the Council of Europe as part of their wider initiative ''Reference Level Description for National and Regional Languages''. The inaugural seminar in Herceg Novi will provide an overview of English Profile and a chance to influence its future development. The key objective is to identify colleagues and contacts working in the fields of English language studies, applied linguistics, language pedagogy and assessment, etc., who are willing to contribute to the project in a number of ways: by participating directly in the research programme, by becoming local or regional coordinators who will promote the project, by highlighting the specific needs of teachers and learners of English in their country, by contributing data and insights that will enrich the pedagogical tools that are being developed, etc. The seminar is, therefore, aimed at establishing the network in South East Europe, including (but not limited to) Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, (FYR) Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania and Serbia. The programme will include presentations from the English Profile research and development teams, workshops and discussions. Confirmed keynote speakers are: Prof Joanne Neff van Aertselaer, Complutense University of Madrid, Spain Prof Tatiana Larina, Peoples' Friendship University Moscow, Russia Dr Jeannette Littlemore, University of Birmingham, UK Dr Vladimir Zegarac, University of Bedfordshire, UK.
