European Dialect Syntax III Date: 18-Sep-2008 - 21-Sep-2008 Location: Venice, Italy Contact: Marika Lekakou Contact Email: edisyn meertens.knaw.nl Meeting URL: http://www.dialectsyntax.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=41&Itemid=79 Linguistic Field(s): Syntax Meeting Description: European Dialect Syntax Workshop in Venice The Edisyn (European Dialect Syntax) Project is an ESF-funded project running at the Meertens Institute in Amsterdam. It aims at establishing a European network of dialect syntacticians using similar standards with respect to data collection, storage and retrieval. In collaboration with Cecilia Poletto (University of Venice), Edisyn is organizing a workshop in Venice to be held in 18-21 September 2008. The workshop, entitled ''European Dialect Syntax III'', is the third in a series of meetings (the first in Padua, the second in Amsterdam) dedicated to dialect syntax. The program can be found here: http://www.dialectsyntax.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=41&Itemid=79 The general goal of the workshop is to bring together scholars with experience in the field of dialect syntax and scholars that have recently started, or are planning to set up, a data gathering project. As can be judged from the program, the workshop has three distinct topics: 1) progress reports from dialect syntax projects that have recently started 2) presentations about syntactic variation in Eastern European countries and 3) sessions on methodology, tagging and databases. Those interested in attending the workshop are of course welcome. Please send us an email in advance (edisyn(AT)meertens.knaw.nl) and no later than 1 September.
