Dear Colleague, Professor Eero Tarasti will celebrate his 60th anniversary on September 27, 2008. Professor Tarasti holds the chair in musicology at the University of Helsinki. His works, published in several languages by leading publishers, have focused on the tradition of classical music, semiotics of music, theoretical and philosophical issues in research on the arts, and existential semiotics. He is the president of the International Association for Semiotics Studies and the director of the International Semiotics Institute and of the Finnish Network University of Semiotics. The International Semiotics Institute will celebrate professor Tarasti's birthday with the festschrift Semiosophies. Intersections of Philosophy, Semiotics, and the Arts. Essays in Honorem of Eero Tarasti on his 60th Anniversary. The book will focus on the themes of philosophy and theory of semiotics, semiotics of culture and music, and musicology. Contributors are professor Tarasti's colleagues from Finland and abroad. The articles are published in English or French and the book is edited by Pirjo Kukkonen, Irma Vierimaa, Harri Veivo, Robert Hatten and Rick Littlefield. All scholars acquainted with professor Tarasti and his work can congratulate him by purchasing the book for 25 euros and having his or her name printed in its tabula gratulatoria.
