The University has a comprehensive range of study programmes and research disciplines, with 20,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students from 50 countries, and a complement of 1,200 academic members of staff, many of whom are internationally renowned. Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in the School of Humanities (Linguistics) (Ref.: RF-2007/2008-862) Applications are invited for appointment as Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in the School of Humanities (Linguistics), from July 1, 2009. The post will initially be made on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal. Appointee who has demonstrated performance will be considered for tenure during the second three-year contract. Applicants should have a PhD degree in Linguistics, with specialization in one or more areas that will complement the existing strengths of the department (please see http://www.hku.hk/linguist/). They must also have an active research profile and should be able to contribute to the supervision of MPhil and PhD candidates. Annual salaries will be in the following ranges (subject to review from time to time at the entire discretion of the University), with starting salary depending on qualifications and experience: Associate Professor : HK$622,740 - 963,060 Assistant Professor : HK$474,600 - 733,440 (approximately US$1 = HK$7.8) The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 15% of basic salary, as well as leave, and medical/dental benefits. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable. At current rates, salary tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.
