The job posting for Sociolinguistics/Discourse Analysis at the
assistant professor level at Montclair State University is being
withdrawn.
The Linguistics Department at Montclair State University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in sociolinguistics and/or discourse analysis for Fall 2009. Salary is dependent upon qualifications. Position is subject to funding. Responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate teaching, scholarly research, student advisement and mentoring, and committee assignments. The successful candidate for this position should have a strong background in theoretical linguistics, broadly defined (syntax, phonology, morphology, and/or semantics), as well as a specialization in sociolinguistics or discourse analysis. Applicants with professional experience in contexts where linguistic theory is applied are especially encouraged to apply. A commitment to undergraduate and graduate education and a track record of research are essential. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the department's strengths, which include language and social life, second language acquisition, computer-mediated communication, and corpus and computational linguistics; cultivate connections with other departments/programs; link teaching and research; integrate quantitative and qualitative methods in research and teaching; and link theory and practice. Ph.D. in Linguistics or related area required by August 2009; record of research and demonstrated potential for funding; teaching experience preferred.
