PhD-student "Universal constraints on phonological acquisition?" (1.0 fte)

Job description:
Within the research group 'Grammar and Cognition' the investigation of
developing phonological representations in the mental lexicon is an important
topic. Currently we have a vacant Ph.D. position. The Ph.D.'s role will be to
carry out the project 'Universal constraints on phonological acquisition?'
leading to a Ph.D. thesis. This project involves investigating to what extent
evidence for universal constraints is present in the first year of life, how
sensitivity to constraints changes in the course of development and how
constraints interact in perception and production.

Requirements:
The successful candidate has a Master degree in linguistics (preferably
phonology) or psycholinguistics and has a strong affinity with child language
acquisition, and in particular infant testing. He or she has affinity with
interdisciplinary research and has excellent writing skills. He or she
preferably is a native speaker of Dutch, or is willing to learn Dutch.

Organization:
The Faculty of Arts consists of eleven departments in the area of language and
culture, history, history of arts, linguistics and business communication, who
together cater to about 2,700 students and work closely together in teaching and
research. The project will be carried out within the Centre for Language
Studies, where it falls under the research unit Grammar and Cognition within the
Faculty of Arts.

Duration of contract: 1,5 years with a possibility of prolongation for another 2
years.
