Position start date: July 1, 2009 Posting information: http://umanitoba.ca/cgi-bin/human_resources/jobs/view.pl?posting_id=80833 Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience The Department of Linguistics, Faculty of Arts, at the University of Manitoba invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in American Sign Language (ASL) linguistics at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate shall have research interests in ASL, as well as expertise in one or more general linguistic areas such as phonology, syntax, linguistic typology, or sociolinguistics. The appointee will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in ASL linguistics including The Structure of ASL and Special Topics in ASL along with courses in general linguistics according to the appointee's areas of specialization and the department's needs. Duties also include supervision of graduate student research and service in the Department, Faculty, University and the community at large. Candidates are requested to demonstrate success in both research and teaching and to present evidence of a program of scholarly research and publication. The appointee shall have been awarded a PhD by the effective date of the appointment, July 1, 2009. Position Number: 08543. The Department of Linguistics at the University of Manitoba offers a diverse program of study to undergraduate and graduate students at the MA and PhD levels, with focuses on the Algonquian language family, Persian, and ASL. The department stresses fieldwork and the collection and analysis of primary data in our faculty and students' research activities. The department houses the ASL-English Interpretation Program (joint with Red River College).
