Qs: Animal Names Used to Address People
Editor for this issue: Dan Parker
We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.
In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have taken the trouble to respond to the query.
To post to LINGUIST, use our convenient web form at http://linguistlist.org/LL/posttolinguist.html.

A student of mine is carrying out a survey on animal names that are used in
addressing people in English, and she needs quite a number of native
English informants. I wonder whether you could devote a little bit of your
precious time to fill in the attached questionnaire and/or ask your
friends/colleagues/students/family members to fill it in, and send it back
either to me (bbkati at yahoo.com) or to her (szamosfalv at freemail.hu).
The questionnaire is downloadable from:
Unfortunately it is not interactive, so you'll have to save it to your
computer and send it back as an attachment. Everything is explained in
English on the first page of the document. Feel free to reformat the
document (it's in tabular format) to provide more space if necessary.
Also, should you have any comments on the topic or any recommended
readings, they're more than welcome!
We would gratefully appreciate it if you could help her.
Thanks in advance,
