Description:
The Department of Linguistics seeks to appoint a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Linguistics, with a specialization in sociolinguistics. Applicants for the Senior Lectureship should have experience in university-level teaching and a good publications record. Interest in an additional area of linguistics, for example psycholinguistics, Black South African English, historical linguistics or the use of corpora in linguistics, would be an advantage. Qualifications: Applicants for the Senior lectureship should have a PhD in Linguistics with a strong record of publications. For a Lectureship, a PhD is normally required, as well as a record of publications. Duties: Teaching and supervision at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Research in areas of teaching and interest. Administration within the Department and at School level. Experience: At least three years of teaching at tertiary level for Senior lecturer, and not less than one year for Lecturer. Evidence of research publications. Remuneration will be consonant with qualifications and relevant expertise. The appointee must be able to take up the post from 1 July 2008.
