Position ID: SD_PM_JS_200801 Job Description, duties and responsibilities We are looking for an experienced Program Manager to join our R&D team, to develop Machine Translation systems. The ideal candidate must have a proven track record of managing complex initiatives across multiple stakeholders, must be adept at communication at all levels, and must be comfortable addressing projects that can contain considerable business process and technical detail. You must also have strong interest in developing and enhancing the capabilities of Machine Translation. You will develop and apply advanced methods, theories, and R&D techniques from a variety of technical specialties for complex and difficult problems, independently execute responsibilities, routinely plan/direct/coordinate projects, proactively anticipate, understand, and meet customer needs, alter leadership and work style to accommodate diversity in ideas, employees, customers and cultures, without sacrificing results. Responsibilities include: - Manage the US R&D team in coordination with R&D Director located in Paris. Includes software development, experimentation, analysis of results, and building new systems that combine linguistics and statistical language models for Machine Translation covering several languages. - Oversee existing and lead the effort to acquire new funded research and development activities in the field of Machine Translation. - Supervise multiple projects valued at approximately $2M annually under the direction of management. - Develop components of software products and accompanying design information, such as functional specifications, design specifications, and unit tests. You will be actively involved in all phases of development including algorithms, software implementation, unit testing, debugging, and system integration. - Manage 3 to 4 project teams (5 to 7 individuals). This includes planning, scheduling, and managing the work needed to ensure the successful completion of projects; determining the resources needed to meet scheduled objectives; and organizing the workload of subordinates based upon established criteria. - Interface independently with customers, and represent the company at internal program meeting reviews. - Responsible for day-to-day management of all project phases including continual communication with customers and R&D team in Paris. - Select, motivate and counsel project team members. - Communicate related administrative support needs to accounting personnel. - Provide timely reporting to management. Skills: - Knowledge of and experience with Natural Language Processing - Significant programming experience. - Superior oral and written communications skills. - Evidence of mature, flexible, and innovative approaches in previous work experience. Qualifications: MS or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Software Engineering, Applied Mathematics or Physics 7+ years work experience, including at least 3 years as a team manager. Knowledge of foreign languages a plus.
