The American Translation and Interpreting Studies Association (ATISA)
invites you to attend the fourth ATISA Conference, 'Meeting at the Border:
Profile of the Language Mediator.' The conference will be held at the
University of Texas at El Paso April 3-5, 2008.
ATISA encourages, supports, and furthers the study of translation and
interpreting studies by disseminating knowledge and research relevant to all
areas of language mediation, specifically translation and interpreting,
regardless of discipline. 'Translation and interpreting studies' here means the
study of all forms of communication between languages, including translation,
interpreting, localization, bilingual text revision, cross-cultural
communication, and the various specializations, tools, and technologies involved
in such activities. Presentations focusing on the act of communicating between
human languages from a wide range of disciplines and methodologies, including
translation studies, interpretation studies, applied linguistics, cognitive
science, cultural studies, ethnology, sociology, anthropology, education, and
other social sciences are welcomed.
Presentations must follow the standards of scholarship of their respective
disciplines, and they must show the connection of their work to translation
and interpreting studies.
ATISA IV will be held in the world's largest binational, bicultural, and
bilingual metropolitan areas, El Paso-Cd. Juárez. It is an ideal location
for the dissemination of information on intercultural communication. You
will have the opportunity to network with translation and interpreting
scholars and educators from the Borderlands, Texas, and from across the
nation and world.

Programme indicatif de l'Atelier
Le séminaire que nous avons l'intention d'organiser est conditionné par
l'obtention d'un financement de la part du Ministère de l'Éducation roumain. Ce
financement dépend de la confirmation des participants intéressés. Les
potentiels intéressés sont donc priés de nous faire parvenir dès que possible
leur intention de participation.
L'obtention du financement nous permettra de rembourser les frais de voyage et
d'hébergement des conferenciers invités et des participants roumains. Il n'y a
pas de frais d'inscription pour les participants étrangers. Les organisateurs
offrent les matériels des ateliers et les repas.

Disciplines:
linguistique textuelle, argumentation, rhétorique, traduction, philosophie,
esthétique.
Objectifs:
1) identification de nouvelles approches dans la recherche fondamentale en
sciences du langage en vue de l'exploitation et de la valorisation de nouveaux
domaines scientifiques (linguistique du discours, analyse du discours,
stratégies argumentatives, interprétation du texte, intertextualité)
2) développer des modèles théoriques avancés pour la description des phénomènes
complexes:
a) la traduction;
b) l'écriture;
c) l'intertexte;
d) la (re-)construction des notions par des stratégies discursives;
3) présentation de travaux en cours (sous forme de posters ou d'interventions en
atelier)
4) valorisation des résultats et théories développées dans le cadre de la
linguistique discursive la problématique:
a) de l'essai;
b) du texte autobiographique;
c) de l'intertexte.
Attentes:
1) validation des théories et modèles existents;
2) identification et ouverture de nouvelles directions de recherche;
3) promotion de la coopération scientifique internationale entre des chercheurs
à expériences professionnelles et culturelles différentes;
4) mise en place d'une structure collaborative internationale dans le domaine de
l'étude du texte de perspectives multiples.
Participation Collaborative:
1) formation d'une opinion consensuelle quant aux priorités de recherche dans
les domaines de l'atelier;
2) identification de collaborations interdisciplinaires dans le sens d'un projet
commun de recherche
3) recherche d'instruments de financement pour soutenir le projet collaboratif.
Les chercheurs intéressés sont priés de nous transmettre leur intention de
participation en précisant s'ils souhaitent:
a) simplement participer aux travaux de l'atelier;
b) y participer avec une communication;
c) y participer en qualité de conférencier invité;
d) y participer avec une présentation poster.
En cas de confirmation de votre intérêt, les organisateurs vous transmettront
les détails d'inscription et le programme définitif de l'atelier.
L'atelier peut accueillir environ 20 participants, après sélection des propositions.
Les interventions des participants feront l'objet d'une publication des Actes de
l'Atelier dans les publications sérielles
