Dear Subscribers,

I've been at LINGUIST List since Fall 2007 and I can say without reservation that
this is the best job I've ever had. This is the first job that has really challenged
me intellectually and I love it. Sure, there are days where there is far more to
get done than I have time for, but that's just preparation for the real world.

On the Listserv, I'm responsible for conference postings. (The professor who
co-taught my only undergraduate linguistics class, Robert Millar at the University
of Aberdeen, was also the submitter for one of my first posts!) I also work on the
LL-Map project, the LL Cookbook revision project, as well as the up-and-coming
Student Portal Area project. Every once in a while I also do some graphic design
work. Who knew those art classes would actually come in handy some day?

I'm really thankful that the LINGUIST List offers jobs and assistantships to
graduate students. Though this year I was just an hourly worker, I hope that there
will be enough funding available next year for me to have an assistantship (your
donations help!). Even the hourly position has been enough to make graduate school
a possibility for me. Academically, I've never been more engaged in my classes.
Since LINGUIST attracts students from all over the world it's not uncommon to have
native speakers of four or five different languages in a class of 15. And since
I'm actively working in the field of linguistics while taking classes, I am able
to absorb so much more during work, lectures and my readings.

It's because of your donations that we have been able to grow to a crew much larger
than we ever thought, taking on so many enthusiastic young linguists like myself.
LINGUIST List needs your assistance to continue providing support to the discipline
as a collection of electronic resources and as a fantastic training ground for the
next generation of linguists. So, donate to help me and the rest of us complete our
degrees and continue providing you a good service.

Thank you again for your continued support and donations,

Stephanie Joy-Gamble Morse
1st year Masters Student and Student Editor

This Year the LINGUIST List hopes to raise $60,000. This money will go to help keep
the List running by supporting all of our Student Editors for the coming year.

See below for donation instructions, and don't forget to check out our Fund Drive
2008 LINGUIST List Circus and join us on our many shows!

There are many ways to donate to LINGUIST!

You can donate right now using our secure credit card form at

Alternatively you can also pledge right now and pay later. To do so, go to:

For all information on donating and pledging, including information on how to
donate by check, money order, or wire transfer, please visit:

The LINGUIST List is under the umbrella of Eastern Michigan University and as such
can receive donations through the EMU Foundation, which is a registered 501(c)
Non Profit organization. Our Federal Tax number is 38-6005986. These donations
can be offset against your federal and sometimes your state tax return (U.S. tax
payers only). For more information visit the IRS Web-Site, or contact your
financial advisor.

Many companies also offer a gift matching program, such that they will match any
gift you make to a non-profit organization. Normally this entails your contacting
your human resources department and sending us a form that the EMU Foundation fills
in and returns to your employer. This is generally a simple administrative procedure
that doubles the value of your gift to LINGUIST, without costing you an extra penny.
Please take a moment to check if your company operates such a program.

Thank you very much for your support of LINGUIST!
