Ref nr DUP 2008/130 Permanent full-time appointment. Start date 1st August 2008, or by agreement. The post may be offered for a trial period. The salary will be set individually, include a suggestion in your application. Place of appointment: Falun. The English subject at Högskolan Dalarna currently has 22 teachers and offers both Swedish and international students a wide range of courses and programs up to Masters level. Duties Teaching and supervision of students in English linguistics at undergraduate and Masters level both on campus and by distance, plus eventually teaching abroad at one of our partner universities (above all in Vietnam). Other teaching within English and the teacher training program can be required. In this post is included research to varying degrees. There is also course administration, subject development and general teaching development. Since close cooperation between teachers is part of the subject's working practice, it is expected that the applicant will be based at Campus Lugnet during term time. Prerequisites A bachelors degree with a major in English linguistics and training in how to teach at university or equivalent competence, as well as proof of teaching expertise (HF 4 kap). Criteria As criteria for hiring, the amount of expertise in the areas specified in the prerequisites for the post is taken into account. Also the amount of administrative and other skills relevant for the duties described for the post. The applicant's skills at developing and leading the teaching practice and fellow staff members will also be taken into account, as will the ability to cooperate with the local community and to inform others about research and development. Pedagogical and scientific expertise will be treated equally for the post. National goals regarding the job market, equality, and society will also be taken into consideration. Desirable qualifications A doctorate in English linguistics and training in how to teach at university or equivalent competence, as well as proof of teaching expertise. Good subject knowledge within English linguistics, preferably within applied linguistics, and one or more of the following: phonetics/phonology, sociolinguistics, pragmatics and discourse analysis. Proof of experience in course development and teaching, especially essay supervision, both at undergraduate and Masters level. Experience of teaching English in an international perspective will be of merit. We are looking for a flexible and cooperative person who will take the lead, who is prepared to take on greater responsibilities, and who will actively work to increase interest in language studies together with other teachers.
