Training, Quality and Certification in Foreign Language Short Title: TQAC in FLT Date: 08-Feb-2010 - 09-Feb-2010 Location: Siena, Italy Contact: Pierangela Diadori Contact Email: diadori unistrasi.it Meeting URL: http://www.unistrasi.it/online/IscrConvDitals.asp Linguistic Field(s): Applied Linguistics Subject Language(s): English (eng) French (fra) German, Standard (deu) Italian (ita) Spanish (spa) Meeting Description: The aim of the meeting, organized by the DITALS Centre of the University for Foreigners in Siena (Italy), is to discuss methods of assessment and evaluation criteria in foreign language teacher education (knowledge and skills). A team of experts has already met twice in Siena (TQAC 2008 and 2009) to discuss and give answers to the main issues on EFL teacher training. This third meeting (with workshop) will enable participants to compare good practices in language teacher training in Europe and beyond (TQAC 2009 focussed on Canada,TQAC 2010 will focus on USA), in the context of the current European policy for foreign language teaching. Relevant European documents will be illustrated (Profile, EPOSTL, TrainEd, QualiTraining etc.) and progress of EAQUALS grid on teaching skills will be analyzed in view of teaching awards used in various European countries. Three important European documents will provide a background framework: European Profile for Language Teacher Education (2004), EPOSTL (European Portfolio for Student Teachers of Languages) (2005) and TrainEd (First steps in teacher training. A practical guide) (2007), recently translated into various languages. Representatives from language teacher training certification bodies will take part in the meeting in order to illustrate teaching assessment methods for teachers of English, German, French, Italian, Spanish and other languages.
