The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.
Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page at http://linguistlist.org/jobs/jobnet.html. This page has been
set up so that people can report on the employment standards of various countries.

The dissertation research should be in the area of language typology, with particular emphasis on the typology of verbal valency classes. It will be carried out in the context of a project on valency classes in the world's languages (see http://email.eva.mpg.de/~haspelmt/Ditransitive.html). The doctoral fellow should already have an MA in Linguistics or an equivalent qualification, and be either registered or qualified to register in a recognized doctoral program at a university or equivalent degree-awarding institution. (The MPI for Evolutionary Anthropology does not award degrees.) Except for approved absences (e. g. fieldwork, conferences, vacation), the place of work is Leipzig. The fellowship is available from 1 September 2009. We will start reviewing applications on 18 May 2009. Women are especially encouraged to apply; handicapped applicants with equal qualifications will be given preferential treatment. Applicants should send a CV, a statement of research interests, and a sample of written work (such as the MA thesis or a research article). All documents sent by the applicant (i. e.
