Description:
A position as a doctoral research assistant is available in the Institute of Translation and Interpreting at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences for a 3-year DORE/SNF-funded project on translation processes. In this longitudinal project, the translation processes of students and professional translators are monitored at different points in their translation careers. The multi-method approach we are using includes interviews, surveys, keystroke logging, computer screenshot recording, eye-tracking, cue-based retrospective verbalizations, and text analysis. The translation versions are English/French/Italian into German and German into English/French/Italian (i.e. translation into L1 and into L2). Requirements: - matriculation in a doctoral program in Translation, (Applied) Linguistics, or a related field - MA degree or equivalent in Translation, (Applied) Linguistics, or a related field - background in empirical research and data analysis - interest in translation process research - excellent proficiency (oral and written) in German and English as well as Italian or French - ability to work with other researchers - familiarity with standard MS Office or similar applications - Swiss/EU citizenship or a suitable work permit for Switzerland Desirable qualifications: - professional experience in the language services sector - familiarity with data analysis applications such as SPSS Further details: The conditions of the project funding allow for a doctoral research assistant to work 50% on the project and 50% on his or her own dissertation, ideally within the framework of the project. The starting salary is CHF 39,600. The review of applications will start immediately and continue until the position is filled.
