Description:
The Utrecht University Faculty of Humanities currently has a vacancy for a research professor of Discourse, Cognition and Communication (1,0 fte). Your research and teaching will concentrate on the domain of Language and Communication, which focuses on the study of form and function of language use. It will be your responsibility to initiate and conduct innovative research for the Utrecht institute of Linguistics OTS, in particular in the groups Discourse Representation and Processing and Readability and Comprehension. You will raise external research funding, you will supervise PhD students and direct research projects. You will teach both undergraduate and graduate courses. At the undergraduate level, your teaching primarily concerns the programs Dutch Language and Culture, Communication and Information Sciences. At the graduate level, teaching primarily concerns the MA-programme Communication Studies and the Research Master programme in Linguistics. You will be expected to establish and maintain connections with colleagues within and beyond the faculty, both nationally and internationally. You will perform administrative and organizational duties at various levels within the Faculty of Humanities. The candidate we are looking for is a linguist, cognitive scientist or communication specialist, with a strong interdisciplinary background, expertise and research ambition. • You are experienced in empirical research on language use and communication in discourse. • You hold a PhD and have published extensively and internationally in the field. • You have been successful in acquiring funds and in directing research projects. • You have shown the ability to develop your own innovative line of research. • You have an international orientation. • You are able to initiate and maintain a network of international and interdisciplinary connections. • You have a broad experience in developing and teaching academic courses. • You are in command of the Dutch language, or will undertake to acquire this command within two years. Terms of employment This research professorship concerns an appointment for a period of five years; after that, and depending on a positive assessment, a permanent position may be obtained. The position is full time (1,0 fte). Dependent upon knowledge and experience a minimum of 4,904.- and a maximum of € 7,142.- gross per month for a full time appointment (Dutch university professor scale 2).
