Description:
Natural Language Processing Researcher Work within a fast-paced research group developing multimodal solutions (e.g. sketch, handwriting, speech) for understanding map-based planning interactions, with an emphasis on developing and implementing innovative, robust mechanisms for extracting system level understanding from spoken inputs that accompany inking on a map. Provide the method and logic for integration of language applications into Adapx research modules and product line. Design, develop, and user-test system(s) that will leverage the next generation of speech and handwriting applications to meet user needs. Reports to VP Research. No direct reports. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other duties may be assigned.) -Develop various multimodal parsing and statistical algorithms for natural language processing and modeling in both speech and handwriting applications; -Develop tools for efficiently processing corpora of speech and/or sketch/handwriting data; -Work with a team of researchers and developers to successfully integrate research components and validate functionality; -Prepare written documentation describing progress and status of project(s); -Conduct, integrate, and synthesize qualitative and quantitative research to generate useful and actionable insights to guide product design and development; translate ideas into viable solutions. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: -Understanding of Spoken/Natural Language Processing, and a broad knowledge of related parsing and statistical modeling techniques in processing either speech or handwriting inputs; -MS or PhD in Computer Science or a related field plus 3+ years of industry or equivalent experience; -Proficiency with one or more of the following programming languages is required: C, C++, C#; -Self-motivated, team-oriented, experienced researcher; -Strong oral and written communications skills are expected; -Ability to work effectively and successfully either independently and/or in a collaborative team environment. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES PREFERRED: -Experience desired with statistical language modeling for either speech or handwriting applications, grammar construction and usage, parsing, tagging, lexicon construction, and fusion of outputs from multiple parallel recognizers; -Experience with Nuance speech processing modules and APIs; -Experience with AT&T's FST Toolkit, Google's OpenFST or related toolkits.
